HA | VRRP
Basics covered here - please refer to this guide. EC HA
Best Practice: Use THA at Data Centers or large branches.
EDGE HA (EHA)
- Has HA link between the EC's
| Advantage | Disadvantage | Considerations |
|---|---|---|
| no WAN switch or router required | Loss of directly connected circuits to failed appliance | Spoke/branch locations |
| All wan link BW shared between EC's via HA link | must be on same code versions | static IP not required for spoke, in Hub and spoke Topology |
| Less static IP space required | Not supported in Cloud deployments | |
| Easier cabling | one port on each EC Used for HA link | |
| Same circuit on both EC, can lead to loss issues (not suggested topology) |
Traditional HA (THA)
- No HA link between EC
| Advantage | Disadvantage | Considerations |
|---|---|---|
| All WAN circuits terminate on both EC | WAN switch/Router required | HUB/Headend/DC |
| EC Failure Does not in loss of directly connect circuits | Additional IP space required | Cloud deployments must use THA |
| One port not used for HA link | More care in routing config for loop prevention | Large Branch/DC/Headend |
| Able to have EC on different code versions | static IP required for HUB/Headend |
Failover Time Configuration options:
- Tunnels retry count > completed in previous step.
- Flow reclassify timer > mentioned in previous step, Check with SE.
- VRRP/VRRP IPSLA
- BGP/OSPF timers
